Below you will find information to help you further your research on your Kemper County Ancestors. If you know of a resource I do not have listed here, please let me know.

Don't forget to look at the History of Kemper County! There are a few old pictures there. One of your ancestors might be right in the middle of the picture!

Please send a self-addressed, stamped envelope along with your request. There is no cost for this service except for postage and copy cost, however donations can be made the library specified for the genealogical room. The copies are $.20 each.

The following resources are available at the library: 

Census Indexes: 1837, 1850, 1860, 1880

Census Records on Microfilm: 1837 (online), 1840, 1850, 1860, 1870, 1880, 1900, 1910, 1920
(Any year that does not have an index, they try to look up as they have time, but because the census records are on microfilm, it takes quite a while to search each page and staff time is limited.)

Enumeration of Educable Children: 1890, 1892, 1894, 1896, 1900 These are NOT indexed. They are being put online. The 1890 and the 1896 Enumerations are online now. Currently the 1890 Enumeration is indexed.

Mortality Schedules: (1850, 1860, 1870, 1880)

Tax lists/Land Rolls: (1834, 1835, 1836, 1837, 1842, 1846,  1848, 1854) The only one indexed is 1848. All of these are  posted online. See

KEMPER COUNTY RECORDS, on file in the Department of Archives and History.
The entries are arranged alphabetically by office followed by series of records and dates. For convenience, all records concerning the disposition of estates are listed under the Probate Court. Records created by the state of Mississippi or the United States government are usually listed under Miscellaneous. These include federal census and land records and the state Board of Health. All records are on microfilm.
