2nd MS Cavalry, Co. H 

"The Kemper Dragoons"

Company H of the 2nd Mississippi Cavalry Regiment was known as the Kemper Dragoons, and was enlisted at Wahalak on March 19, 1862. The officers were
as follows: 
Captains: W. G. Beck, J. B. Hall
First Lieutenants: J. B. Hall, H. B. Grissom
Second Lieutenants: R. A. Finn, E. A. Ward
Third Lieutenants: D. B. Dew, R. A. Finn, David Johnson, wounded at Jonesboro.

On December 31, 1864, there were 50 on the roll.

The Second Regiment of Mississippi Cavalry was formed on the nucleus of Gordon's Battalion, which James Gordon organized and was commissioned Lieutenant -Colonel and J. L. Harris Major, May 12, 1862. An undated memorandum of the companies of Captain Gordon's Battalion "rendezvousing at Columbus" shows that the companies of Captains Raney, Love, Perry, McCarty, Harris, Hogan were the first to arrive, followed by W. G. Beck, Ruffin, Pitts and White.

The Second Mississippi Cavalry was also known as the Forty-Second in early rolls, and the Fourth in official reports. Its Colonels were A. P. Mason, not confirmed; J. L. McCarty, James Gordon, Edward Dillon, assigned July 21, 1864. It fought at:
Thompson's Station
Brentwood
Franklin (1863)
Jackson Siege
Meridian Campaign
Atlanta Siege
Campbellton
Franklin (1864)
Wilson's Raid

Only a small remnant remained to surrender at Citronelle, Alabama, on May 4, 1865.
