1st Regiment MS Infantry,
Company E
"Kemper Deer
Hunters"
This company was
organized at Macon August 18, 1864, and contained mostly men from Kemper
County. The Captain was Edmond Newell, with Lieutenants; John C.
Gilbert, Duncan D. Briggs, and William B. Pettus. Total enrollment of
the company was 64 men.
The other Company that is already on the site is
Company I, 1st Regiment MS Infantry, but this regiment was in the C.S.A.
service, not just the state as in the case of the other company. Thus,
there were actually two 1st Reg. MS Infantries, one in national service,
one in state service.
For further
information on this company, contact Bryan
D. McRaven.
If you have names of men you would
